14:17:00

I love black pumps, both in high heels and in flats, they are definitely my go-to shoes. They may be a boring looking shoe but they are a girls best friend and a building block in your wardrobe!

They scream classy and sophistication and can turn any outfit into a elegant one.  They are both effortlessly easy to wear and look great with pretty much any outfit in your closet.  It’s one of the very few items considered to be timeless and will never go out of style and they can easily take you from daytime to nighttime wear in an instant. Wearing them with Jeans looks just as elegant as wearing them with dresses or skirts, they definitely elevate your outfits.  It’s a staple that we should all have in our closet.

BLACK PUMPS ARE VERSATILE

It’s one of those pieces it pays to invest in.  It will end up being one of, if not the most versatile shoe in your closet.
  • Pumps add an instant air of glamour to any outfit, whether formal or casual.
  • Pumps lengthen the leg and make the arch of the foot more defined.
  • Pumps elevate your work outfit or simply make your jeans and tee look that little more pulled-together and classic if chosen correctly.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN CLASSIC BLACK PUMPS

  • A suede black pump is my preferred option, because the suede makes the shoe look rich (no matter how much you spend) A patent leather or plain leather shoe worn with tights or stockings draws attention to the shoe which breaks up your leg.
  • No matter what the trend, a thin heel is always best when shopping for a classic black pump. A block heel is fine, but with certain outfits they can be a little less dressy, and a little more trendy. I'm going for maximum versatility.
  • A black pump with a pointed toe rather than square or rounded toe elongates the leg.
  • Wear black pumps with a skirt – The pump adds length to the legs, even with a midi skirt.

HISTORY OF PUMPS

Today the term "pump" is used mainly to describe a women's shoes, but men were the original wearers of the style.  The so-called "invention" of the pump is widely argued and no one is really sure how it came about.  In Europe, these shoes became known as court shoes and in the United States, they were known as pumps.

Men's and women's shoes were quite similar in style right up until the mid-1600s. Then they split: men's shoes leaned toward the practical side, while women's shoes were made out of luxe materials, like silk and velvet, and decorated with embellishments.  They were the epitome of a luxury item.  Owning a pair meant that you had the funds to afford such a extravagance.

Pumps, as we know them today, originated after World War II.  Shoe designer Roger Vivier, who worked for Christian Dior, designed the three-inch stiletto heel in 1954.  This new style was much more glamorous than the practical court shoes that had reigned supreme over the last century.

Today pumps have there place in our closets as a wardrobe staple, because they just that great.

See below how versatile the black pump can be.  Don’t miss out on having this wardrobe staple in your wardrobe.
