Style: Pinafores

The pinafore dress, the skirtall, or the overall dress — there are a number of names for this effortlessly cool and casual dressy piece, but one thing's for certain, it's currently trending. The stylish piece is a cross between a pair of overalls and a dress.

Traditionally a style for young-girls, the grown-up pinafore dress is quirky, fun, and so incredibly comfortable. It can be styled a variety of ways:  Pinafores are meant to be layered over a variety of tops. Crew neck tees and collared button-ups work especially well.  If you want something casual, try a striped tee, solid t-shirt, chambray shirt, or checkered button-up. If you want something dressier, I recommend a pussy bow blouse, lace, or ruffles. Don’t be afraid to try colour or print, especially under a solid black pinafore.

Pinafore dresses are perfect because they can be styled on their own or layered over T-shirts and roll neck sweaters in much colder temperatures. The pinafore dress is a great staple to have all year round because of how versatile it is. It can be dressed down, or dressed up depending on your look and what you are going for.

Denim dresses are perfect for creating a casual daytime look.  The dark denim colour is always a classic and clearer look.  Wear it with a plain white t-shirt underneath for a casual summer look or layer it over a long sleeved top and tights for winter.

Every wardrobe needs a little black dress.  So, why not add a little black pinafore dress into the mix?  A basic black pinafore can be styled in a variety of a ways.  Wear it with a striped top and lace-up shoes for a classic preppy look.

You can’t beat a good floral print and it would make a fun addition to any summer wardrobe.
A square neckline and thick straps means that you can easily wear it as is, or you could pop on a light denim jacket for a smart transeasonal look.

Here are a few looks that will inspire you to wear your pinafore this season.

I hope these style tips have given you some inspiration! Till' next time xo
